Alne Village Hall: Online Booking

About Alne Village Hall

Alne Village Hall was once the village school, built in 1877 on Glebe land. In 1972 a new school in the village was completed and the old school became our much loved village hall.

Of note is G.J.F Newey's lovely time piece, possibly installed in the 1880's, showing the time inside and outside the hall. The clock unfortunately stopped working in December 2023.

On inspection the clock had severe rotting to the outside face and mounting due to water ingress. Following a fund raising campaign supported by local villagers and with the help of generous grants from APC and NYCC locality fund, the clock was fully restored by Matthew Read, clock conservator in August 2024.

The clock is still wound up weekly by a small team of volunteers and keeps excellent time, a true reflection of the simple but effective engineering ingenuity of 140 years ago. A maintenance plan is now in place to keep the clock in good order for future generations to enjoy.

The Hall  has undergone extensive modernisation and upgrading. This modernisation continues to ensure the hall is a building fit for the 21st Century, including aiming for a smaller carbon footprint.

The main hall is about 72 m2 with a serving hatch through from the well equipped kitchen. We have comfortable fold up seating for 100 people and an assortment of different sized tables. It is a great venue for yoga, children's and adults parties, keep fit, music and other events. The kitchen is equipped with a large cooker, microwave, hot water heaters and glasses, crockery and cutlery.

In addition we have a separate meeting room which can comfortably seat 8, with its own kettle, fridge and toilet facilities.

Our regular users include yoga, pilates, Rainbows, The Alne Choir and the Women's Institute. For more information on our regular activities see “Documentation” tab

In addition we hold regular pop-up pub nights, quiz nights and music events.
