Jim White is a self-taught guitarist and singer who has seen a lot of life.
He’s been a European fashion model, professional surfer, boxer, preacher and dishwasher, culminating with thirteen long years driving a taxicab in New York City. It was during a psychological spiral at the end of those years that White crossed paths with David Byrne, who promptly signed White to a record deal.
There followed a succession of critically acclaimed solo records, appearances on major network shows like Letterman and Conan, plus several off-beat side project releases (Hellwood with Johnny Dowd, Mama Lucky, Sounds of the Americans)
His music runs the gamut – alt-country, indie pop, experimental music of various kinds. It is by turns deep, catchy, dark, beautiful, sad, and funny. Above all, he’s a brilliant lyricist and storyteller.
Many of his songs have appeared in film and television, (‘Word-Mule’ in Breaking Bad, and ‘Static on the Radio’ in El Camino, with Aimee Mann)
